About the Embassy of Canada to Vietnam
The Canadian Embassy in Hanoi is Canada’s resident diplomatic mission in Vietnam.
Canada and Vietnam established diplomatic relations in 1973. Canada opened its embassy in Hanoi in 1994, and the relationship now includes cooperation in trade, investment, development, education, security, science, technology and people-to-people exchanges.
The mission is headed by Jim Nickel, Ambassador of Canada to Vietnam.
Consular services
Services at the Canadian Embassy in Hanoi
The embassy provides passport, citizenship, notarial and other consular services for Canadian citizens.
Passport services
The embassy provides full Canadian passport services for adults and children. Applications can be submitted by mail or presented in person by appointment.
Citizenship services
Eligible paper applications for proof of Canadian citizenship can be mailed to the embassy’s Consular Section.
Notarial services
The embassy provides selected notarial and document authentication services for Canadians in Vietnam.
Marriage abroad
The embassy does not perform marriages. Where required by Vietnamese authorities, it can administer an affidavit of marital status by appointment.
Emergency assistance
Canadian citizens requiring urgent help can contact the embassy during business hours. Emergency consular assistance is available 24 hours a day through Canada’s Emergency Watch and Response Centre.
Visa and immigration
The Embassy of Canada in Hanoi does not accept or process visa applications. Visa and immigration matters are handled through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada and official Visa Application Centres.

The embassy publishes separate hours for general access and consular appointments.
General embassy hours
General access is currently available Monday to Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. On Friday, the embassy is open from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Consular appointments
Consular services are currently available by appointment Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. On Friday, appointments are available from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
Check before travelling: Hours may change during a large-scale emergency or official closure. Confirm your appointment before visiting for consular services.

Apply by mail
Complete passport applications can be mailed to the Consular Section, Embassy of Canada, 22nd Floor, Tower 1, Capital Place Building, 29 Lieu Giai Street, Hanoi.
Apply in person
Applicants can book an online appointment to present their passport application documents in person at the embassy.
Processing time: The embassy currently states a processing time of 20 business days for applications submitted outside Canada. Mailing time is additional.
Urgent travel: If you must travel in less than 20 working days, contact the consular section. A temporary passport may be available in qualifying cases and can be issued within approximately three working days after receipt of a complete application.
Payment: Passport service fees must be paid online.
