Passports and One-Way Travel Documents

The Embassy provides passport services for eligible Nepali citizens residing in Canada.

Passport applicants should use Nepal’s official passport application procedure and follow the current Embassy instructions concerning supporting documents, biometric enrolment, fees and personal attendance.

The Embassy also provides a one-way travel document for eligible Nepali citizens who need to travel urgently to Nepal but do not have a usable passport because their passport has expired, been damaged or lost.

For a one-way travel document, the Embassy currently requires an application form and explanatory letter, identity documentation, proof of Canadian immigration status, photographs and additional documents depending on the circumstances. A police report is required when the passport has been lost.

The Embassy states that complete applications for a one-way travel document can be submitted by mail. The currently published processing time is approximately 3 to 4 business days.

One-way travel only: The temporary travel document is intended for returning to Nepal. Applicants should check transit requirements before planning a route through another country.

Appointments and Personal Attendance

Appointment requirements depend on the consular procedure.

Applicants should follow the current instructions published for the specific service they need rather than assuming that all procedures use the same appointment system.

For Power of Attorney certification, personal attendance at the Embassy is mandatory. Applicants are instructed to send scanned copies of the required documents and their contact details to the Embassy for review first.

After reviewing the documents, the Embassy arranges an appointment and contacts the applicant with the date and time.

Power of Attorney: If travelling a long distance to Ottawa, contact the Embassy before making the journey. The Embassy specifically advises applicants to confirm availability for this service in advance.

The current Visa on Arrival fees published by Nepal’s Department of Immigration are USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 days and USD 125 for 90 days.

Travellers can also apply in advance through a Nepali diplomatic mission. Nepal’s current NepaliPort system includes applications for visas through diplomatic missions and an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) procedure.

The Ottawa Embassy currently publishes fees of CAD 45 for a 15-day multiple-entry tourist visa, CAD 70 for 30 days and CAD 180 for 90 days.
