Japanese Visas in Ottawa
Visa applications and enquiries in Canada are handled according to the applicant’s place of residence.
The Embassy in Ottawa handles visa matters for applicants residing in the Ottawa area. Residents elsewhere in Canada should use the Japanese Consulate General responsible for their province or territory.
Japan offers several visa categories, including temporary visitor, work, study, Working Holiday and other long-stay visas. Eligible applicants seeking a single-entry visa for tourism may also be able to use the official JAPAN eVISA system.
Canadian citizens holding valid ordinary Canadian passports do not normally require a visa for qualifying short stays in Japan of up to 90 days for tourism or short-term business activities that do not involve paid work.
Visa exemption is not permission to work: Travellers should check the current Japanese entry requirements for their nationality, passport and purpose of travel. A different visa or status may be required for employment, study or other long-term activities.
