About the Embassy of Canada to Germany

The Canadian Embassy in Berlin is Canada’s resident diplomatic mission in the Federal Republic of Germany.

Canada and Germany established formal diplomatic relations in 1951. Canada’s embassy was relocated from Bonn to Berlin in 1999, and the current embassy building at Leipziger Platz was inaugurated in 2005.

The embassy supports political, economic, security, cultural and other bilateral relations between Canada and Germany and provides Government of Canada services to Canadians visiting or living in Germany.

The embassy provides passport, citizenship, notarial and other consular services for Canadian citizens.

Passport services

Adult and child passport applications can normally be submitted by registered or traceable mail. Applicants can also leave completed applications with security at the embassy entrance.

Citizenship services

Eligible paper applications for Canadian citizenship certificates can be mailed to the embassy or deposited in the reception drop box during published weekday hours.

Notarial services

The embassy provides selected notarial services by appointment, including certified copies, witnessing certain signatures and declarations, and statements in lieu of a certificate of non-impediment to marriage abroad.

Marriage abroad

Canadians marrying in Germany may be asked for a certificate of non-impediment. The embassy can issue a statement in lieu of this certificate for use in Germany.

Emergency assistance

Canadian citizens requiring urgent help can contact the embassy during business hours. Emergency consular assistance is available 24 hours a day through Canada’s Emergency Watch and Response Centre.

Visa and immigration

Visa and immigration services for Germany are handled through the Embassy of Canada in Vienna and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
