About the High Commission of Canada in Kenya
The Canadian High Commission in Nairobi is Canada’s resident diplomatic mission in Kenya and Canada’s largest diplomatic mission in Africa.
Canada and Kenya established diplomatic relations when Kenya gained independence in 1963. The High Commission supports bilateral relations in areas including trade, development, governance, security and regional cooperation.
The mission is also accredited to Somalia and Uganda and serves as Canada’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations Environment Programme and UN-Habitat in Nairobi.

The High Commission provides passport, citizenship, notarial and other consular services to Canadians in Kenya and several countries in the region.
Passport services
Routine Canadian passport applications must currently be sent to the High Commission by courier. In-person passport appointments are not offered for standard applications.
Citizenship services
Eligible paper applications for proof of Canadian citizenship can be sent to the Consular Section by courier or mail.
Notarial services
Selected notarial services are available by appointment. Applicants should first email scanned copies of the documents and explain the service required.
Emergency assistance
Canadians requiring urgent consular assistance can contact the High Commission during office hours. Emergency assistance is available 24 hours a day through the Government of Canada.
Marriage and civil documents
The High Commission provides official guidance on marriage abroad, births, deaths and other civil-document matters affecting Canadians.
Visa and immigration
The High Commission does not provide information about immigration, permanent residence or visa applications. These matters are handled through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
