About the Embassy of Canada to the Netherlands

The Canadian Embassy in The Hague is Canada’s resident diplomatic mission in the Netherlands.

The embassy supports Canada’s political, economic, security and people-to-people relationship with the Netherlands and provides Government of Canada services to Canadians visiting or living in the country.

The mission is headed by Hugh Adsett, Ambassador of Canada to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Permanent Representative to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

The embassy provides passport, citizenship, notarial and other consular services for Canadian citizens.

Passport services

Canadian passport applications can be presented in person by appointment or sent to the embassy by courier or registered mail.

Citizenship services

In-person citizenship application services are no longer available. Eligible paper applications can be sent to the embassy by registered mail or courier and are forwarded to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada for processing.

Notarial services

The embassy provides selected notarial services by appointment, including certified copies, signature witnessing, statutory declarations and eligible apostille services.

Marriage abroad

The embassy can provide a statement in lieu of a certificate of non-impediment to marriage abroad where applicable.

Emergency assistance

Canadian citizens requiring urgent assistance can contact the embassy during business hours. Emergency consular assistance is available 24 hours a day through Canada’s Emergency Watch and Response Centre.

Visa, study, work and immigration enquiries are handled through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada and its official web channels.

General appointments are currently available Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. On Friday, appointments are available from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Consular appointments

Consular services are currently available by appointment Monday to Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The consular section is closed on Friday.

Apply in person

Book an appointment to present your passport application documents in person and bring your online payment receipt.

Apply by mail

Completed passport applications can be sent by courier or registered mail to the Embassy of Canada, Consular Section, Sophialaan 7, 2514 JP The Hague.

Plan ahead: The embassy recommends applying for a new passport at least six weeks before planned travel.

Passport return: Once the new passport reaches the embassy, it can be collected in person or returned by registered mail if this was requested with the application.
