About the Turkish Embassy in Ottawa

The Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Ottawa is Türkiye’s resident diplomatic mission in Canada.

Diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Canada date from the 1940s. Türkiye’s first Ambassador to Canada presented his credentials in March 1944.

The Embassy has operated from its historic building at 197 Wurtemburg Street since 1953.

In addition to its diplomatic work, the Embassy maintains a Consular Section serving residents within its designated consular district.

Appointments at the Turkish Embassy

Many Turkish consular procedures require applicants to arrange an appointment before attending the Consular Section.

Appointments for Turkish citizens are available through Türkiye’s official Consular Services Portal.

The portal provides service-specific requirements, fees and appointment options for passport, birth, marriage, notarial, citizenship and other procedures.

Passport applications, including new passports, replacements following loss and temporary passports, require personal attendance after an appointment has been arranged.

Many notarial procedures also require an appointment and personal attendance.

The Embassy currently accepts personal consular applications from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, excluding official holidays.

Türkiye Visa Information for Canadian Travellers

Canadian ordinary passport holders currently qualify for visa-free short stays in Türkiye.

According to the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Canadian citizens holding ordinary passports are exempt from a visa for stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period.

The exemption applies to qualifying short stays. Different requirements can apply to employment, study, residence and other travel purposes.

Canadian holders of official passports currently require a visa to enter Türkiye.

Travellers should verify current passport validity and entry requirements before departure because visa exemption does not remove other immigration requirements.
