Senegalese travel documents

Senegalese Passport Services

The Embassy has enrolment equipment for Senegalese biometric passports and accepts eligible applications by appointment.

Passport production is not completed directly at the Embassy. The Embassy states that passports are produced periodically in Dakar after passport applications have been enrolled in Ottawa.

Because the enrolment equipment may be unavailable while passport production is taking place, enrolment services can occasionally be interrupted for several weeks.

Adult passport applications

For an adult passport renewal, the Embassy currently requires the original and a copy of the passport being renewed, together with the original and a copy of the applicant’s Senegalese national identity card.

If a passport has been lost, applicants must also provide a police incident or loss report.

The Embassy currently publishes a passport stamp fee of CAD 48, payable in cash.

Passport validity and renewal

The Embassy states that an expired biometric ECOWAS passport cannot simply be extended by adding a validity endorsement.

Except where an applicant can demonstrate an urgent reason, the Embassy also states that a passport cannot normally be renewed while it still has 12 months or more of validity remaining.

A lost or damaged passport cannot simply be reprinted. A new enrolment is required.

Passport appointment required: Due to demand and the periodic availability of the enrolment equipment, secure the required appointment before travelling to Ottawa.

Travel to Senegal

Senegal Visa Applications

Visa requirements depend on the traveller’s nationality, passport and individual travel circumstances.

For applicants who require an entry or stay visa for Senegal, the Embassy publishes a visa application procedure.

The current Embassy instructions require a passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry into Senegal, two passport photographs and a completed visa application form stating the purpose of travel, intended duration of stay and address in Senegal.

Applications from refugees travelling with refugee travel documents and nationals of certain countries can require prior consultation with Senegal’s Ministry of the Interior.

Applicants in these categories should therefore allow additional time for the application process.

Check whether you need a visa: Visa requirements vary by nationality and travel document. Confirm the current requirements with the Embassy before submitting an application.
