North Macedonian travel documents
Passports and Emergency Travel Documents
Passport and emergency-document procedures for North Macedonian citizens abroad depend on the type of document required.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade currently lists specific diplomatic and consular representations equipped to issue regular travel documents to North Macedonian citizens residing abroad.
For Canada, the Ministry’s current passport information identifies the Consulate General in Toronto among the locations where regular travel documents may be issued. Ottawa is not included in that published list.
Applicants seeking a regular biometric passport should therefore contact the Embassy or Consulate General in Toronto to confirm the current application location and availability before travelling.
An Emergency Travel Document is available to eligible North Macedonian citizens who are abroad without a passport. It is intended solely for returning to North Macedonia and is generally valid for 30 days from issuance or for the period required for the return journey.
The published requirements include an application, two photographs, evidence of identity and citizenship and the applicable consular fee. A police report is additionally required when a passport has been lost or stolen.
Regular passport applications: Do not assume that the Ottawa Embassy can capture a regular biometric passport application. The current Ministry information specifically identifies Toronto as a passport-issuing location in Canada.

Travel to North Macedonia
North Macedonia Visa Information
Entry requirements depend on the traveller’s nationality, travel document, immigration status and purpose and duration of travel.
North Macedonia issues airport-transit visas, short-stay and transit visas and long-stay visas where a visa is required.
A short-stay visa can cover visits of up to 90 days, while long-stay visas are used in conjunction with approved temporary-residence procedures for purposes such as work, study and family reunification.
North Macedonia also maintains exemptions for certain travellers who hold qualifying residence permits or multiple-entry visas issued by specified countries.
For 2026, foreign nationals who would otherwise require a short-stay visa can enter under a temporary exemption when they hold a valid multiple-entry British, American or Canadian visa inserted in their passport. The stay can be up to 15 days per entry, and the qualifying visa must remain valid for at least five days beyond the intended stay. The current measure applies from January 1 to December 31, 2026.
Check your individual visa requirement: Entry rules differ by nationality and travel document. Verify the current requirements with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade or the Embassy before travelling.
